Yellow Poplar
Yellow poplar is one of our least expensive and most versatile woods.  In the eastern United States it was a common construction wood before being replaced by the western softwoods.  It was used for molding, doors, house siding, construction lumber, and just boards for every conceivable application.  Today, it is used mostly as a secondary wood in furniture, millwork, doors, paneling and many other applications.
The species ranges throughout the lower midwest and Appalachian regions and southern states in nearly pure stands.  The trees grow fast, and straight with a high volume per acre.
The wood is soft and light with a wide white sapwood and a heartwood which is initially green when cut, turning to a brown.  The wood is relatively inexpensive.
