Nursery Stock
Cassens Trees has a quantity of wholesale nursery stock available for fall digging. The minimum quantity available is 50 trees and
trees are priced based on you digging. For quantities of 50 or more trees, digging can be arranged and the cost is added to the trees.
There are approximately 75 Blue Spruce trees in the 4' to 6' height range priced at $40 each and 25 Blue Spruce trees
in the 6' to 8' range priced at $60 each. Over 80% of these trees are "blue shiners" which are the premium trees of the industry
because of their spectacular blue color.
We also have available 75 Norway Spruce trees in the 4' to 6' height range priced at $30 each, 25 Serbian Spruce trees
in the 3' to 4' height range priced at $30 each, and 100 Douglas Fir trees in the 7' to 9' height range priced at $50 each.
Lastly, various species of Fir Christmas trees in lots up to 100 trees are also available.
Hardwood Lumber
Cassens Trees produces small quantities of hardwood lumber using a Woodmizer LT40 hydraulic portable band sawmill.
Many of the trees are obtained from forest management activities conducted on our own timber lands or from salvage.
To maintain quality, lumber is carefully handled, air dried, and finally kiln dried
to 6-8% moisture content. Specific information on lumber drying is
available in the Dry Kiln Operator's Manual, USDA Agriculture Handbook No.
188. The manual is available for $30 from the Forest Products Society
at 608-231-1361, extension 212.
As a small, part-time producer, Cassens Trees is able to supply small quantities (50
to 500 board feet) of lumber at competitive prices. We are willing
to sort for quality, widths, lengths and other factors often important to
small users. We stock a limited quantity of 4/4 and 8/4 stock to 18
inches wide. Upon request we can also produce book match boards and
other highly decorative products. Custom sawing services are available.
To locate suppliers of semi-load quantities of hardwood lumber, contact the Indiana
Hardwood Lumberman's Association (IHLA) at http://www.ihla.org.
For purchase information, please email your requests to dcassens@cassenstrees.com.
Let us know species, quality level, widths, lengths, thickness and any other useful information. Knowing what the
lumber will be used for helps us to determine the quality level needed. Purchasers will be responsible for any shipping
charges. For specific questions please complete the Lumber Information
Request form.
Christmas Trees
We maintain Christmas tree farms in two locations in Tippecanoe County. The first
farm is located near West Lafayette at 5038 Morehouse Road where Morehouse
Road, Taft Road, and County Road 500 North all intersect. Look for the
big white barn and old brick house. At this farm, you will find quality trees up to
ten feet tall, including Scotch pine, White pine, Fraser fir, Douglas fir, and
Canaan fir. The second farm is located on State Road 25 North, just north of Americus.
At this farm, you'll find an excellent selection of Douglas fir up to 9 feet tall, Canaan fir in the
4 to 6 foot range, and some Fraser fir up to 14 feet tall.
At both tree farms, we individually price each tree so you know
the cost before you cut or choose one of our precut trees, which we carefully
select at the right time to ensure freshness.
