About Us:

Our Past
Cassens Trees has produced Christmas Trees in Tippecanoe County since 1978. Our first trees were planted on a couple of acres of an abandoned wheat field. Dan thought trees were better than weeds in the back yard. The location was on 400 West and access was by gravel road. Because of the limited area, we planted and brought trees in from a Putnam County property. Later, we were able to move just a short distance from the original location to the “Brown Barn” at the corner location. Many of our current customers recall this location, as well as the second location between Americus and Delphi. Seven years ago, we bought the historic Levi and Lucy Morehouse property at the corner of Morehouse Road and 500 North. This location offers 15 acres of trees and a large sales barn with pre-cut trees inside for protection during inclement weather and evening sales. We are also continuing the use of the property located on State Road 25 between Americus and Delphi. Both properties are completely planted with trees, so if you are looking to continue, or start, a family tradition of cutting your own tree, we are positioned to serve you well this year and into the future.

Our Trees
At the very first location, we produced Scotch Pine and a few White Pine in the six-to-ten foot height range. As time has gone by, customer interests have diversified. We now produce Scotch Pine, White Pine, Fraser Fir, Canaan Fir, White Fir, Douglas-fir, and Blue Spruce. There are a few trees available up to 16 feet or more in height. The future looks bright. After nearly 30 years of field experience, and by attending meetings produced by the National Christmas Tree Association, the Mid America Christmas Tree Association, the Ohio Christmas Tree Growers Association, the Indiana Christmas Tree Growers Association and, especially, the Michigan Christmas Tree Growers Association, we have the knowledge to produce a quality tree of any of the above species. Dan Cassens does all of the cultural work on the trees himself. This includes planting, fertilization, weed and grass control, insect and disease control, shearing and other activities. There is no room for part-time hired help to downgrade a tree from lack of experience.

Our Future
We hope you will select a tree from us. There is no right or wrong tree. Walk through our fields and look at the variety between or within species and pick the one that you like. Or, check the old barn out and let us show you the choices. Pre-cut trees are cut on as needed basis and protected from the sun and wind inside the barn. We shake dead needles from the trees. Baling and boring for our easy set up and stable tree stands are available.
